Jesus Christ: The Ultimate Boy Scout

My friend spoke in church last week about how the values of scouting reflect the teachings of Jesus Christ. in a way, it could be said that Jesus Christ was the ultimate boy scout.  In addition to doing a good turn daily, Every boy scout takes an oath to obey the scout law and to keep himself physically strong and morally straight. The scout law is a list of virtues that every boy scout has committed to living. Illustrating the parallels between scouting and Christianity, my friend shared a teaching of Jesus Christ that corresponded with each element of the scout law.

A scout is:

Trustworthy- "Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work." (New Testament, John, John 4:34)

Loyal- "Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve." (New Testament, Matthew, Matthew 4:10)

Helpful- "Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee?   (what will thou have me do for thee)  mine hour is not yet come." (New Testament, John, John 2:4)

Friendly- "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." (New Testament, John, John 15:13)

Courteous- "Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets." (New Testament, Matthew, Matthew 7:12)

Kind- "But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God."(New Testament, Mark, Mark 10:14)

Obedient- "For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me." (New Testament, John, John 6:38)

Cheerful- "These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." (New Testament, John, John 16:33)

Thrifty- "Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me." (New Testament, Matthew, Matthew 19:21)

Brave-"And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt." (New Testament, Matthew, Matthew 26:39)

Clean- "Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you." (New Testament, John, John 15:3)

Reverent- "After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name." (New Testament, Matthew, Matthew 6:9)
