Unofficial and unauthoritative opinion on doctrine of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints concerning the Nature of God, the Atonement of Jesus Christ, the Plan of Salvation, the Apostasy and Restoration, and Priesthood Authority.
It's stuff like this that gives people the impression that we worship Joseph Smith. Actually, stuff like this gives me the impression that some of us do worship Joseph Smith.
I enjoyed seeing all these images of Joseph Smith and thinking about him ... I'm aware of the other comments and why they feel the way they do - but for some reason this worked for me today. Guess I'm schmaltzy and uncool ... :)
My Brother-in-law sent me a link to this video. I understand people's objection to video's like this. I used to cringe, when student's would make similar slideshows using pictures of Christ. I just don't think rock music does the creator justice. However, I posted it because I got me thinking about my gratitude to God for the inspired life of Joseph Smith and there were some pictures in it I had never seem before. Also, I was teaching myself how to embed video. By the way, I don't like embeding YouTube video because after the video has played it lists a bunch of anti-mormon videos. There is a similar video by SethAdamSmith on YouTube about JS set to "Praise to the Man."
I'm really not sure. However, I didn't make the video. I just have a link to the video on Google that I got from my brother-in-law. Honestly, I prefer the video set to "Praise to the man" but I only find that video on YouTube and when you embed a YouTube video you get all the anti-mormon videos come up once the video is done.

Actually, it's pretentious comments like this, judging others' beliefs that gives me the impression that a little bit of knowledge is indeed a dangerous thing.
JNS, you know very well the Church does not worship Joseph Smith. Nothing in this post suggests such a preposterous idea. Give it a rest, please.
I believe that singing songs about a particular man is wrong. It doesn't matter who it is to Joseph Smith, or Joe Lewis. We should only be signing songs to the Lord Almighty. When you lift a man up like that it is idolatry. Idols are not only graven images, anything or anyone that someone puts before God, or gives glory to in the same way as one would honor God is an idol. God alone deserves the glory as none of us could take a single breath without Him. Someone said that Mormons don't like Joseph Smith anymore than others like Elvis or Dale Earnhart. People worship Elvis as a god even praying to the statue of this dead man. We as Americans have a huge problem with idols of the heart as Paul talks about in scripture. If you are honoring anyone or anything in the same way that you would honor God then you need to repent and recognize this as idolatry and spiritual adultery. We are called to be the Bride of Christ and not the Whore of Babylon.
Whoa - interesting comments and surprising to. I want to thank you for a beautiful and inspiring slideshow. Giving a prophet of God a tribute isn't idolizing him or placing him above another. It's showing respect and gratitude for all he did for the human race.

I whole heartedly agree with what j. nelson-seawright said above. It is things like this that lead to sensationalism in the church.
Cheezy schmaltz.
Only Jesus Saves. There is no debate about that. Joseph himself taught that again and again.
Mormon's don't like Joseph Smith any more that other's like Elvis, or Dale Earnhart.
Mormon's just consider Joseph Smith more deserving

Nobody is more deserving than Elvis.

Queso
Hmmmm... what I'm wondering is whether anyone paid Five For Fighting for the copyright license to reproduce their song here ;)
So far the recording companies have not gone after people who use their music on YouTube.
And that makes it legal? :P

Interesting interpretation. Darn, that means that "Davie Crockett" is out.
According to that interpretation, if you can't write a song about someone, than you can't paint a picture of anyone else either.
So, every painting depicting anyone other than Christ should be considered an idol.
